Early work
Haig is Swiss, of Armenian descent, he studied piano and music composition at the Basel Academy of Music as well as Paris, Sofia and Venice. He started working as a concert pianist and teacher until he could fully dedicate to music composition.

Composer
Haig composes contemporary pieces inspired by his passion about philosophy and history. In his writing, he blends influences of the European musical tradition with middle eastern culture, from which he inherited. At the intersection of these two worlds, his music associates occidental rationality with oriental mysticism, creating a strong distinctive spiritual tone in all his creations.

« Haig Vartan, a man of absolute music, an analyst. »

«…splendid Requiem: it is a requiem characterized by a great expressive, structural and thematic cohesion. »
Linda Gysin, Extrait du mémoire d’histoire de la musique, 2007
« Vartan in no way identifies with the quote ‘Art for Art's sake’. For him, the themes that inspire his work must have something to do with life, the world, what surrounds us. In fact, his works always have something to do with his own history. In his music, Vartan highlights what preoccupies him, what touches him and makes him think. »
Jean-Jacques Varoujean, « La quadrature du siècle »
« Venice… Attended yesterday a rehearsal of Prométhée XII. It was a highlight…I listen to Haig Vartan’s music and I am happier than anyone…»
